We experience it when we are busy, overwhelmed, or under pressure. Trauma, however, is different. It commonly arises during:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Work pressure<\/li>\n\n<li>Financial strain<\/li>\n\n<li>Caregiving responsibilities<\/li>\n\n<li>Exams or deadlines<\/li>\n\n<li>Major life transitions<\/li><\/ul><p>During stress, the nervous system becomes activated to cope. When the situation improves, the body generally begins to regulate again.<\/p><p>Common stress symptoms include:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fatigue<\/li>\n\n<li>Tension<\/li>\n\n<li>Irritability<\/li>\n\n<li>Difficulty concentrating<\/li>\n\n<li>Restlessness<\/li><\/ul><p>Importantly, stress tends to ease with rest, boundaries, problem-solving, or time away.<\/p><p>Stress is about what is happening now.<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_Stress_Becomes_Something_Deeper\"><\/span>When Stress Becomes Something Deeper<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2><p>Trauma is not limited to extreme or dramatic events. It can form through experiences that were overwhelming, frightening, or emotionally unsafe at the time especially when support was missing.<\/p><p>Trauma often develops when a person felt:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Alone in distress<\/li>\n\n<li>Powerless or trapped<\/li>\n\n<li>Unable to escape or express themselves<\/li>\n\n<li>Unsupported emotionally<\/li><\/ul><p>Where stress comes and goes, trauma lives in the nervous system as a stored survival response.<\/p><p>The body may hold tension long after the event has passed.
